GLOBAL EDUCATION STUDENT ASSESSMENT TOOLS INVENTORY
Global Education Checklist for Teachers, Schools, School Systems and State Education Agencies
The American Forum for Global Education
This is one of the most valuable resources for global education that I have used. It is an extensive yet user-friendly checklist divided into three sections: Questions about Student Knowledge of Global Issues, Culture and Connections; Questions about Schools for Principals, Teachers and Community Leaders; and Questions for Local School Systems. You could use the sections individually or in combination to determine the current state of global education in your classroom, school, or district, and the first section is particularly useful for evaluating the competencies that students possess. The items on the checklist also provide direction for how to incorporate global competencies into your curriculum.

Educating for Global Competence: Preparing Our Youth to Engage the World
The Asia Society
I have mentioned this guide in other sections of this web site because it is SO valuable. This is a "textbook" of sorts for global education, and within the text are embedded are various examples of lessons, units and assessment tools that will help you understand how to assess for global competence, as well as expanded versions the EdSteps matrix mentioned below.

This rubric could be used as a tool for assessing students' understandings of the interrelationships between economies, technologies, and political structures, as well as their general understanding of the aspects of different cultures and the importance of culture.

Program for International Student Assessment (PISA)
Not a tool for the classroom, but an one to be aware of. PISA is an international assessment measuring reading, math, and science literacy among 15-year-olds around the world. PISA also includes measures of problem-solving and other cross-curricular competencies. PISA is conducted every three years, most recently in 2012, and you can look at results and trends online. This is one of the assessments that is used to compare skills among students around the world, so it is a good one to know about.
